Design Defenders: The Official Blog of CIRCLE Design Studio

“The life of a designer is a life of fight: fight against the ugliness.”

― Massimo Vignelli

To be a designer is to have an active role in enhancing lives.  A designer is a thinker, a feeler, a planner, a problem solver, an innovator, a collaborator, a translator, a communicator, and an artist.  The aim of a designer is to convey ideas, feelings, craft and identity in a manner that is both functionally and aesthetically appealing to a client.

Over the last several years, real, functional, and unique design has been smothered underneath the booming cookie-cutter housing movement. Many new homes seem to be built following the motto “bigger is better” with little attention to detail or clients’ wishes, leaving them wondering, “why doesn’t my house look the way I had dreamt in my mind?”

And let’s face it.  We live in an HGTV-obsessed world.  Such is a world in which the general public gorges on “design eye-candy” of amazing spaces, but has absolutely no idea the steps that went into it to get the final product.  Projects are dreamt up in a designer’s head, someone swings a sledge hammer, and voila! Your renovation is complete!  Not quite.

These very reasons convinced us to start a blog for CIRCLE Design Studio. We LOVE design, so what better name than Design Defenders?!

Our philosophy is three fold:  Defend, Cultivate, Educate.

- Defend the public from bad design and shoddy craftsmanship

- Cultivate new ideas and the creative spirit

- Educate the public on the design and construction process

Design Defenders blog will feature posts regarding a wide range of topics, such as:

-Construction

- Decor

- DIY projects and solutions

- Contract and business related information

- Local design inspiration and craftsmen

- Products

Good design must be nurtured, cared for, and defended, and we're here to do it!
